MODAL - Syneos Health

Details
Timeline
May 2024 - August 2024
Role
UX Designer working with 2 other designers, 1 PM, and developers
Responsibility
I designed new features, UI, screen flows, collaborated with PM, and handed off designs to developers
Context & Impact
I worked at Syneos Health as a UX Design Intern, contributing to new features and resolving design consistencies for the MODAL Product - an integrated LXP/LMS platform for pharmaceutical companies.
Since then, 20+ clients have used the product & have responded positively to the features, helping them deliver outcomes more effectively.
I collaborated with a designer for ideation, our manager to iterate designs and ensure alignment with stakeholder goals/functions, and handed off designs to developers. While work is under NDA, my main contributions included:
Designed new user flows and interfaces for 4 product features
Enhanced design consistency across 5 existing features
Contributed to the development of a new design system
Supported product-wide documentation, including high-level screen flows, component anatomy, and sub-product structures.
Reflections/What I Learned
Don't lose focus on the high-level. I tend to be super detail-oriented, which sometimes made me spend too much time pixel-perfecting before handoff. I realized that in a fast-moving environment, it’s more valuable to focus on the big picture, get things working, and then refine through iteration.
Ask questions! I recognized the value of proactively asking questions to clarify design decisions - it saves a lot of time and effort moving forward. My manager was helpful and more than willing to answer my questions.
Design systems are important. I learned that using components and developing design systems prevents a lot of design debt. Although it may seem tedious at first, it makes designing so much more fluid later on (and it's a key part in a brand identity!).
